The Musical. The Era. The Lifestyle.
Overview
1935-1946
Jazz music immediately comes to mind at the mention of the swing era. Jazz did indeed create this music era, but the swing era also marked a huge change in American culture. Driven by music, the swing era created opportunities for society to embrace drastically different art and the artists behind it. Jazz clubs and big band swing music brought people of all skin colors together in a fun, friendly environment, allowing people to begin to see each other as equals. That being said, the swing era was still subject to racism on an everyday basis. Many big swing bands (predominately white) stole songs or ideas from the jazz club artists (predominately black). The swing era remains significant today because it influenced much of our culture and popular music.
