An Abundance of Katherines by John Green

Rating: ★

Well I have finally read all of John Green's notable novels, and can say with authority that I am not a fan. Here's the thing: Not only do I find John Green's writing annoying and pretentious, but he writes about the same three characters with basically the same plot line in slightly different settings over and over and over again. The first John Green book you read will probably be your favorite. They will only get more frustrating from there. Because I read An Abundance of Katherines last, I found myself rolling my eyes through the entire thing. It was so predictable it physically hurt me.

Lindsey opened up to Colin in some lovely ways and began to talk about things that I could seriously relate to, but instead of addressing these personal struggles and searching for answers, Colin and Lindsey just started making out and fast forward to their happily ever after.

Let's just talk about the fight scene for a second. What was that? TOC suddenly turned into some superhuman, ridiculously violent, rapey fighting machine! Lindsey was pushed into the role of damsel in destress, a role in which she certainly did not belong. I needed Lindsey to single handedly take out TOC and not just by going for the nuts. I needed her to punch that jerk in the face. Somehow TOC took out three guys all by himself and fended off Lindsey even though one of these men, Hassan, is supposed to be pretty up there in size! You can't just take out a big guy like that with a couple punches.

To sum up: I DID NOT like this book at all. It made me angry. I am very pleased to be done with John Green. The Fault in Our Stars remains the only one of his novels that I love.

I was too frustrated to pull out any good quotes.
